Hamvention Update

Hi All,

This is an update on activities here in Dayton that may impact your visit to Hamvention. Please see that any friends that you have who are headed to Dayton and are not AMSAT members also get this information.

There are still many openings for the AMSAT Pizza n' Suds Party on Thursday evening. This is an event whicih gets larger every year. Bring some friends and have a great time the night before Hamvention. Reservations are requested (see below) but not required. There are still spaces available for the AMSAT Banquet. It is the best banquet during Hamvention (AMSAT guarantee -- no rubber chicken!). This year Lou Mc Fadden will present a talk on the Suitsat program. There may be a few late reservations available at the AMSAT booth on Friday, but these go very quickly. Please make your reservations now. Maps to the banquet are also at the booth. Reservations are required. Walkins are not allowed. Cost is $27.50 per person payable at the door. Cash and major credit cards are accepted. For reservations to both events contact Nancy at KC8GYW@AMSAT.ORG . Further information, including the menu, is available on the AMSAT web site at www.AMSAT.org .

  Road Construction:

Please be advised that US Route 35 is undergoing a major reconstruction east of the intersection with I-75. This applies to both east and west bound lanes. Traffic delays can be expected in the area for anyone who used the US35 / Ohio 49 / Turner Road/ Wolfcreek Pike route to Hamvention. Local traffic reports are carried on WHIO-AM on 1290 kHz about every 8 minutes or so. This route is not recommended for Friday morning to Hamvention. Saturday and Sunday may be OK.

For those staying with the AMSAT group it is recommended that you head west on Col Glenn Highway to Harshman Rd. This is at the end of the fence line for Wright Patterson AFB. Turn right on Harshman (a.k.a. Wright Brothers Parkway) and head to the Hara Arena complex from there. The road is refered to as Wright Brothers Parkway although it changes names several times. Locally Harshman becomes Needmore and eventually becomes Turner Rd. As you pass the water tower on the left hand side of the road, be in the right lane to turn right on Wolf Creek Pike. You will see Hara about 1/2 mile ahead of you. Stay in the right lane if you have a parking pass.

Gas Prices:

This is a favorite topic today. First, some good news, there is a small gas price war on Harshman Rd between Valley St (just passed Stebbins HS) and I-75. On May 9th I paid $2.48.9 for no lead regular at the Meiers Store. Buy gas on Thursday afternoon or evening if you can, when the stations figure out it is Hamvention weekend the prices will go up!!!!

A large crowd is expected for the 8:15 AM Saturday AMSAT forum. We have a larger room this year that will seat over 500 this year. A detailed list of all of the Hamvention forums can be found on the Hamvention website at www.Hamvention.org . Please look at the AMSAT website for a details on the AMSAT presentations. Get there early and grab a good seat.

While you are at Hamvention, stop by the AMSAT booth and meet some of the other AMSAT members and say hello to the AMSAT officers and board members. Hamvention is a great time to renew your membership in AMSAT!

73 and I will see you there!
