Re: AO-40 Receive and FT-847 serial control

Best way to do this is with a step up and step down. I don't know if
the -847 has such a CAT command or not. IF not, perhaps it could be
implemented in hardware, ie 2 bits of the parallell port going to step
up and down inputs on the mic connector or on the back.
I've done this with the 9k6 birds allowing full hands off automation.
(Using ICOM radios, tho also implemented for an FT-736.)
Admittedly, using the discriminator output in the FM decoder is much
easier than modifying the AO-40 RCV software, but if it already does
some checking to provide an output based on frequency, I'd THINK that it
wouldn't be too hard to add output options to that function.
My $.02, for what it's worth.
(I'll be looking to do something similar for my dedicated telemetry
receiver, an old Radio Shack 10m rig.)
Good luck!
