Re: RUBIN 2 copy tonight

Keith:

It is in fact via RUBIN 2. Below is a message quoted from Peter Guelzow's email
that explains why the asterisk is on your call...

"SAFIR-M (AATIS OSCAR-xx) is not a digipeater in the classical sense. The
digipeater is only hardware, completely in a CPLD, i.e. without a
microprocessor. Received HDLC frames are re-transmitted without any change on
the format. So what KD4APP received from N4ZQ was in fact re-transmitted by
SAFIR-M on RUBIN-2!!"

As to why I didn't see any other packets I'm unsure, but I've heard there are
some bits stuck on some of the frames and perhaps my TNC is only accepting
packets with a correct checksum or something similar - I'll check this.

It's not possible for me to have heard you direct if you were transmitting on
435 since I was listening on 145.

Congratulations on your achievement!

Thanks Don for the your report, but there are a few things I don't
understand. First off I was beaconing your copied message as well as a APRS
location packet. I don't see the APRS one at all. I am not sure why you
didn't receive any telemetry information either. And then there is the
matter of the asterisk (*) being after my callsign and not DP0AIS. I don't
know what software you were using but in the past every program I have seen
will put the asterisk behind the last signal heard. I double checked and I
was transmitting on 435.275 MHZ, doppler corrected using UISS and APWPE
soundcard software. What it appears to me is you heard some of my west
central Florida signal direct on 435?? Could it be?? Keith N4ZQ
