Re: R: get a clue...

I'm still working on my received set up on ao-40. I stopped using ao-40 until i can hear the transponder
noise. From that point i can be sure that i can use just the right amount of power needed to be within the
LEILA and passband rules.

As stated by Domenico "and i cannot understand why LEILA is not
operating for the L-band or cannot be switched time to time between the
U-band and the L-band in a more balanced operating democracy.

Technical problems or what ?"

THE PROBLEM

When someone with a marginal receiving set up is calling CQ you have to incresased your TX power well
over the minus 8DB below beacon level to compensate and making him able to copy you.

For the king of the hill effect or the HF pile up syndrome on L band, it is a well known documented
problem with not many technical solutions. The human factor is very hard to control and a lot of
pshychological ressources are needed to control the problem and they are not widely available.
What is mostly frustating on ao-40 its when in the middle of a QSO you experienced the AGC effect to a
point that you lost completely the other station (and you to of course).

The radar interferences is also taking a part of the blame on the UHF uplink and are impossible to be
controled right now or at least when it will proven to the military that it is useless. (as the famous wood
picker era on HF).

As soon as i will be able to rotate my new 2.2 meters dish in azimuth i planned to return on AO-40 with a
more adequate receiving setup and i will also be able to monitor the MB at the same time and visualized
what is going on from L band.

Until that time live long an prosper and enjoy the end of the year celebrations a Merry Christmas and a
happy new year to all.
