RE: interference

In my experience the periodic pulses are cordless phones running frequency
hopping spread spectrum. The noise blanker on my ft990 and IC910 remove
about 90 percent of it. I have the Siemans phones in my house and can tell
when they are in use but it doesn't bother operation much.
I also have an 802.11b wireless network at the house and it cause no problem
as long as I don't use the lowest channel. Most of them come preset to
channel 5 or 6 (out of 11) and most people don't bother changing them. If
you can pinpoint one in your neighborhood you can probably talk them into
changing channels. Because they use direct sequence their noise is
completely different from the wireless phones. as for the steady noise I
have had that a few times and I suspect a microwave oven or a wireless
network transferring at full bandwidth.

Of course receiving on a 12 foot dish definitely helps eliminate this kind
of interference.

Hope this helps
