If you are getting 20w to the 40cx, you are NOT LIGHT on the uplink...you
have PLENTY of power to trigger Leila quite easily and any more power is
useless. You need to work on your receive side.
I know this is getting to be an "old saw", but ...
Download the ao40 Excel spreadsheet from Amsat's FTP site. It has a set of
instructions (written hastily by me) on how to use it. You can fully
evaluate your transmit and receive performance with it and the manufacturers
specs. This will tell you where to spend your money, what to fix, etc. etc.
There is no substitute for playing with this Link Budget Analysis Tool.
....you will learn a LOT and avoid making terribly mistakes. As I have said
before, this is a MUST HAVE utility for anyone who is going to use AO-40.
