RE: Drake offset
Andy,
It might have been me and I stated that I heard my 50 MHz oscillator at 125
MHz. I had wanted to compare to the TSI that I have BEFORE doing any
modification to the Drake (the TSI was modified when I bought it). About a
week ago, only a year and 1/2 after buying the Drake, I tried again and
again only heard my 50 MHz oscillator at 125 MHz and nothing around 122 MHz.
Well, I decided to do the one simple modification to the Drake which is to
remove two coils and 2 caps. Wow, what a difference. I was using a spectrum
analyzer and a receiver to hear and see what was happening. I made the rest
of the modifications and the output signal around 122 MHz just kept getter
better and better.
I believe the reason I was getting a signal at 125 MHz is that the Epson
oscillator I was using has a 25 MHz oscillator in it that it uses to create
the 50 MHz, so I think I was hearing a harmonic of the 25 MHz.
So, I have both units that work with the oscillator, but I still can not
hear AO-40. I have a couple of guys not to far away that are going to help
me though, so maybe soon!

Subject: [amsat-bb] Drake offset
Hi, some months ago (before July) one of you guys stateside commented that
his undmodified Drake 2880 outputted 2.4 GHz way away from 122 MHz which is
where it should be.
I printed this out and found that mine was similar, although even higher,
howver I have lost my printout.
I've now built a new a helix but I cannot locate my harmonic beacon! Please
could the original sender (or anyone!) say at what frequency 2.4 GHz
actually comes out? seem to remember that it's about 3 MHz or even more
off.
many thanks
