[amsat-bb] Sporting Equipment ?

Has anyone ever wanted to take ham equipment on a foreign trip but been
deterred because the extra weight put them at risk of exceeding their
baggage allowance ? (= excess baggage co$ts)

I'm doing some travelling soon and, looking at the airline's web pages, I
see mention that people can take an *extra* 13kg of "sports equipment" in
addition to their personal baggage allowance (usually 20kg). 

Some countries call amateur radio "Radio Sport". Has anyone ever tried
to use this clause to cover the extra weight of ham gear ? 

Theres a rider that sports gear might get bumped onto a later flight ... 
but what if its in the same suitcase as the regular (personal) baggage ?

Any thoughts anyone ?
