As for soldering the mini-DIN connectors - don't, unless youre a glutton for
punishment!
Use a PS2 extension cable, cut it in half, take the male end and Ohm out the
wires to the connectors. You now have a pre-made PKT-port connector for
your FT-847. Only caveat is you have to plug the radio end in upside down
from how you would plug it into a computer port. Solder the wire-end to
whatever it needs to go to (usually something larger than a mini-DIN
connector.
I've done it with a KAM and my TNC31S. It works great and is much easier
than trying to solder those mini-DIN connections with my big fingers...
