RE: AO40RCV receiver Doppler control

Son,
You come out of the serial port of your AO40Rcv computer. I just used 2
conductor shielded cable. Black = up, Red = down, and shield = ground. I am
using a Yaesu FT100D as a dedicated telemetry receiver. The darn thing does
not have easy access to the mic up/dn commands and the print does not
include the IC included within the mic.. As a result I had to run very small
tone arm wire from the actual up/dn buttons on the mic down the mic cable to
my control box. I then covered them with the split corrugated plastic
covering so you don't see them. The box contains the relay drivers shown in
the AR40Rcv help file. I added two relays, each with 100mf caps across them
to stabilize their operation (avoiding double stutter steps). The system
could not work better.
One thing that you will find when using the system: When the bird is very
near perigee, the Doppler changes very fast. As a result I had to increase
the AO40Rcv step value to 120hz and the FT100D step value to 100hz. Anything
less will not keep up with the doppler shift. The receiver can only be
stepped between blocks which limits the the number of up or down commands
that can be sent in that window.
Good luck.

Gunther:

Thanks for the info.

What cable are you using between the PC and the 847 for AO40RCV?

I currently have a "null modem" cable connected between my PC and the 847
for use with the "Rats 847" CAT software I am testing.

Do I need a special cable with AO40RCV to do the mic up/down function?

Thanks,

Don,
I use AO40Rcv for the acquisition of telm and for Doppler correction. It
work GREAT. I use the mic up/dn function. You set the pgm for 60hz steps and
the receiver for 50 hz steps and it works like a charm.

I just got a computer in my shack and I'm wondering what setup other FT-847
users are using to do auto Doppler correction - I.E. Cable, etc.
