Sunday morning we will be visiting two local businesses
dealing with satellite communication and spacecraft.
QUALCOMM Incorporated has been developing their Globalstar
product to provide satellite telephone service. The actual
tour will depend on the specific activities taking place in
the San Diego Test Bed which is used to characterize and
test the entire system. The system includes the satellite
antenna/RF subsystem and call processing. If available, the
tour will include a visit inside one of the three Radomes
containing a 5.5 meter dish antenna which tracks the LEO
satellites, a tour of the San Diego Test Bed Lab/Gateway
and possibly a tour of the satellite phone lab with a
demonstration of satellite phones in operation.

The trip will continue to SpaceDev, Inc. whose mission is
to engage in commercial space exploration and the long-term
development of space. SpaceDev intends to develop and
manufacture spacecraft, launch vehicles, design missions
and provide a complete line of services from assembly and
launch integration to ground stations and mission control.
They are currently working on a contract at their new San

available to view in October.
