I've also heard this from people. My pet theory is that since the 2510
is basically a thinly disguised CB, Uniden used a wider "compromise"
crystal filter to improve the AM RX. I've got a chance to swap
something for an HTX100 this week, so I'm going to try something I've
always wanted to try; swapping the crystal filters. The HTX is
basically a "stripped down" 2510, so it should work.
Another bit of 2510 trivia; if the 73 Magazine repeater split mod has
been done, this effectively kills the strong-signal selectivity of the
rig because the mod puts switching diodes across the crystal filter.
The 2510 I got had this in it, and I wondered why I could hear truck
drivers 2 blocks away no matter where I was in the band until I ripped
those diodes out.
